adventures in fiber – spinning take 1

April 17, 2012

So I’ve had my wheel for about 2 months now and I’m just now getting around to posting my first (real) yarn ever. My FIL gave me some Icelandic wool roving, straight from Iceland, that he acquired about 30 years ago when he was stationed there. So I gave that a go…

My first single ply.

my first yarn!

Gorgeous natural brown. I gotta say, I love how it turned out. And it was not hard at all because of how nicely it was carded. When it was all spun up I made it into a skein and gave it a nice gentle wool bath. It was sitting for more years than I am old, so it was a bit musty smelling. It smells really nice now though lol.

I’m thinking I want to ply it…but not sure with what yet. Go all art yarn with it or ply it with itself….? Hmmm. Or I could leave it single ply.

Spinning is like my new meditation.

Love. much.

I’m already looking at carding machines now. Please do not tell the huz….I don’t think he reads this blog lol.
